Gang of Four drummer and all-round renowned skinsman Mark Heaney has pulled off a spectacular coup on his first solo album, laying down loops samples from various sources to great effect. It’s not just flash chops and nifty percussion (although those elements are there in abundance):

I just got a copy, but I'm already hooked. Heaney is a serious player throwing down plenty of Vinnie inspired “what the heck was that?” moments. But there's a heavy dose of DJ Shadow-style production trickery on this record too which makes for all-round great listening.
