Origins is my second solo album. My first was Drum Room back in 2009.
I wanted to make an album that reflected my musical beginnings and where my sound and style had derived from. A mixture of various sounds and music that had inspired me and made the musician I am today. When I first started recording myself playing it was always very low budget and usually on one mic. There were no computers and no editing .
So when I approached this album I wanted to capture that essence. I used one mic on most of the tracks and for some I would stretch to 2 or 3. I wanted a real room sound and to capture as much dirt and energy as I could.
Being so used to being able to edit things as much as you want in a computer I wanted to go for takes and avoid any cutting. Most tracks were done in 1 or 2 takes with an edit here and there.
For me this album is all about the performance, energy, emotion, excitement and unpredictability of improvising in the moment
which to me is the essence of being a musician.
I always try to make music that reflects life experience and emotion.
It has been a very liberating experience making this album as it has been all about getting back to playing exactly how I want with no limitations and expressing myself fully through the kit.
I don’t think I will leave as long until the my next solo endeavor this time as it has been so much fun making this one I can’t wait to do another.
I hope you enjoy this album and feel the energy, excitement and emotion that I did as I created these tracks.

"Origins is a highly enjoyable and also highly inspiring record that warrants repeated listening. The production alone is worth investigating and if Heaney happens to take this project on the road be sure to grab a front row seat".
(Ian Croft iDrum magazine May 2014)
"Heaney is constantly tossing out fun ideas that, when paired up against other cool licks and beats, increase the mind-blowage exponentially"
